Transcend – BBR (BroadBand Rejuvenation) BBL (BroadBand Light) and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
Turn back the clock with the Transcend Photo Facial… it’s a must-try!
HOW IT WORKS
Experience the power of photo rejuvenation for every skin type with Transcend BBL.
This treatment is suitable for most skin tones and textures, offering a personalised solution for every client. Embrace confidence in your complexion with a treatment designed to cater to your unique skin care needs.
Our Transcend BBR Photo Facial rejuvenates and corrects multiple skin concerns – with no pain or downtime!
- The revolutionary delivery of light energy in BBR mode gently heat the upper layers of the skin using multiple flashes at lower intensity and lower frequencies. This rapid motion delivery eliminates the chances of striping and stamping the skin like traditional light therapy devices were prone to do, especially on darker skin tone.
- When comparing to classic IPL or Intense Pulse Light, as the name suggests it delivers one large intense dose of energy into the skin. As well as being painful the device was not suitable for all skin Fitzpatrick (colour).
- The advance Transcend BBR system now can provide clients with a safe, fast and effective modality for treating the face and body for overall skin rejuvenation as well as conditions such as.
- Rosacea
- Acne
- Hyperpigmentation
- In addition to the photothermal energy will eliminate fine vessels that cause redness, kill acne causing bacteria to reduce breakouts and reduce unwanted melanin that produces pigmented lesions or age spots.
- Extensive studies and research have proven that regular broadband light treatments, not only prevents cellular ageing, but also turns back the clock, causing the DNA expression of skin cells to reverse back to a youthful, healthy state.

How often can you have BBL?
The frequency of BBL photo facial treatments depends on individual factors, including your specific skin concerns, skin type, and desired results. However, there are some general guidelines for both the initial treatment series and ongoing maintenance.
Initial Treatment Series
For most people, a series of initial treatments is recommended to achieve the best results.
- Number of sessions: Typically, a series of 3 to 6 treatments is recommended.
- Spacing between sessions: These treatments are usually spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. This allows your skin to heal and respond to the light energy before the next session.
The number of sessions you need will be determined during a consultation with Skin Spa Therapist who can assess your skin and create a personalized treatment plan.

HOW DO I PREPARE BBR?
- Avoid Sun Exposure: This is one of the most critical steps. For at least 2 to 4 weeks before your appointment, you must avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds. Tanned or sunburned skin can absorb too much light energy, increasing the risk of burns, blistering, and pigmentation issues. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily, and wear a wide-brimmed hat if you are outside.
- Stop Using Tanning Products: Discontinue the use of self-tanning lotions or sprays for at least 7 to 10 days before your treatment.
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment to keep your skin well-hydrated. This can help with the healing process.
Medications and Skincare Products to Avoid
Your provider will give you specific instructions, but generally, you should avoid the following for a certain period before your treatment:
- Retinoids and Exfoliants: Stop using products containing retinoids (like Retin-A), retinol, and other exfoliating agents such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide for at least one week prior. These ingredients can make your skin more sensitive.
- Blood-Thinning Medications: Discuss with your doctor before stopping any prescribed medication, but avoid over-the-counter blood thinners like aspirin and ibuprofen for a week before your appointment, as they can increase the risk of bruising.
- Medications that Cause Photosensitivity: Inform your provider of all medications you are taking, as some can make your skin more sensitive to light. Your provider may advise you to temporarily stop using them.
- Cold Sore Prevention: If you are prone to cold sores, your provider may recommend taking an antiviral medication a few days before your treatment to prevent an outbreak.
On the Day of Your Appointment
- Clean Skin: Arrive at your appointment with a clean face, free of all makeup, lotions, and creams. Your provider will thoroughly cleanse your skin before the procedure.
- Shaving: If the treatment area is on your body, shave the area 24 hours before your appointment for optimal results.
- Wear Loose Clothing: If you are having a BBL treatment on your body, wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that won’t rub against the treated area.
By following these preparation steps, we at Skin Spa can help ensure a safe, comfortable, and effective BBL photo facial treatment.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT, WHAT TO EXPECT?
After a BroadBand Light (BBL) photo facial, it’s normal to experience a range of temporary effects as your skin begins to heal. Understanding what to expect is key to a smooth recovery and achieving the best results.
Immediate Post-Treatment (First 24-48 Hours)
- Sensation and Redness: Your skin will likely feel warm, like a mild sunburn. This sensation, along with redness, is a normal and expected response to the light energy and typically subsides within a few hours to a day or two.
- Swelling: Mild swelling is common, especially in sensitive areas like under the eyes. This can be most noticeable on the first morning after your treatment. You can use cool compresses to help reduce this.
- Darkening of Pigmented Spots: This is a crucial sign that the treatment was successful. Targeted freckles, sunspots, and age spots will begin to darken, often appearing like coffee grounds or tiny specks. This “peppering” effect indicates that the melanin has been brought to the surface of the skin.
- Minimal Downtime: One of the benefits of BBL is the minimal downtime. Most people can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure. Clean Makeup can often be applied to cover any redness or darkening spots.
First Week After Treatment
- Flaking and Shedding: The darkened pigmented spots will begin to flake off naturally. This process usually takes about 7-10 days for the face and can take longer for other areas of the body (e.g., 2-3 weeks for the neck or chest, and up to 6 weeks for the legs). Not every treatment will have shedding only if the pigment is brought to the surface.
- Improved Skin Tone and Texture: As the old, damaged skin natural sheds, you will start to notice a more even skin tone and smoother texture.
- Sensitivity: Your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight and harsh products.
Long-Term Healing and Results
- Gradual Improvement: The full results of your BBL treatment will become more apparent over the next several weeks as your skin continues to heal and produce new collagen.
- Maintenance: BBL is often done in a series of treatments to achieve optimal results. Your provider will recommend a treatment plan and maintenance schedule to keep your skin looking its best.
WHAT TO AVOID AFTER YOUR TREATMENT?
Important Aftercare Tips
To ensure a smooth recovery and maximize your results, follow these guidelines:
- Sun Protection: This is the most critical step. Your skin is very vulnerable to sun damage after a BBL treatment. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 daily, and reapply every two hours, especially if you are outdoors. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and seek shade whenever possible.
- Gentle Skincare: Use a mild, gentle cleanser and a hydrating, fragrance-free moisturizer. Avoid harsh products, including retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), and exfoliating scrubs, for at least one week, or as advised by your provider.
- Avoid Heat and Strenuous Exercise: For 48 hours after your treatment, avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, and intense workouts, as this can increase swelling and redness.
- Hands Off! Do not pick, scratch, or scrub the treated areas, even if they feel flaky or rough. Let the pigmented spots flake off naturally to avoid scarring or other complications.
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to help your skin heal and stay hydrated.
While BBL is a very safe procedure, in rare cases, more severe side effects like blistering or excessive swelling can occur. If you experience any of these, or if you have any other concerns, contact your provider immediately.
