The Biological Reality of Aging (and stressed) Skin
To understand why deep hydration and massage are essential, we must look beneath the surface. As we age, our skin undergoes three primary changes:
1. MOISTURE LOSS
The natural production of hyaluronic acid, the molecule that holds 1,000 times its weight in water slows down. This leads to crepey, fragile skin and fine lines.
2. STRUCTURAL SAGGING
Collagen and elastin fibres begin to fray. Furthermore, the muscles of the face hold onto “micro-tensions” from years of squinting, smiling, and stressing, which etch permanent lines into the skin.
3. DECREASED CIRCULATION
Blood flow slows, meaning fewer nutrients reach the skin cells and metabolic waste (toxins) stays trapped, leading to a dull, sallow complexion.

Who Is This Treatment For?
- The Compromised Barrier: Patients exhibiting signs of Trans epidermal Water Loss (TEWL), often characterized by micro-inflammation, sensitivity, and textural irregularities.
- The Oxidatively Stressed: Individuals exposed to high levels of environmental pollutants or chronic cortisol elevation. High cortisol levels are clinically proven to inhibit fibroblasts, the cells responsible for collagen synthesis.
- Post-Procedural Recovery: This protocol serves as an essential recovery phase for patients who have recently undergone more intensive medical treatments, such as fractional lasers or chemical peels, where the skin requires intensive lipid replenishment and cooling.
- The Proactive Client: Those who understand that healthy aging is a cumulative process. By maintaining a high “hydration ceiling,” these clients prevent the premature formation of static lines caused by dermal dehydration.
Treatment Focus & Highlights
Infusion of Active Serums
Using Skin Spa, Dr Spiller and Ultraderm active serums and ampoules, we deliver high-performance, bio-available ingredients such as peptides, stabilized vitamin C, botanical stem cells, and calming actives.
These serums are selected to support cell renewal and hydration without triggering congestion, making them suitable even for perioral-prone skin. Proper skin preparation allows these actives to penetrate deeply, supporting resilience from within.
Relaxation MASSAGE
1. THE ANATOMICAL LINK: THE SMAS
There is a layer of tissue called the SMAS (Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System). Think of it as a fibrous “blanket” that weaves your facial muscles and your skin together.
- The Result: When your muscles move, your skin moves (creating expressions).
- The Massage Benefit: When you massage the face, you aren’t just relaxing a muscle; you are physically repositioning the “foundation” that the skin sits on.
2. BLOOD FLOW & THE “INTERNAL GLOW”
Muscles act as the pump for the skin’s blood supply.
- Oxygenation: When neck and shoulder muscles are tight, they can constrict blood flow and lymphatic drainage heading toward the face.
- The Connection: By releasing the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscles in the neck, you “open the pipes.” This allows fresh, oxygenated blood to reach the dermis, resulting in that immediate post-massage glow.
3. POSTURE AND SAGGING
The skin on your face is heavily influenced by the muscles in your chest and neck.
- The Pull-Down Effect: If your chest (pectorals) and front neck muscles are tight from looking at a phone, they physically pull down on the skin of the jawline and cheeks.
- Muscle Memory: Consistent massage helps “re-educate” these muscles to sit back and up, which provides a natural lifting effect to the skin overhead.
4. THE NERVOUS SYSTEM BRIDGE
The skin is your body’s largest sensory organ, and it is packed with nerve endings that talk directly to the muscles.
- The Feedback Loop: When you use slow, intentional strokes on the skin, it signals the nervous system to lower cortisol. As cortisol drops, the muscles lose their “guarded” tension. You cannot fully relax the muscle if the skin is being treated roughly, and you cannot truly “glow” if the muscle underneath is constricted and stressed.
